College inspired quilts
For the past 10 years I have used one of my favorite patterns FriendFolks Turning Twenty...Again by Tricia Cribbs for many of my quilts. This pattern is simple but looks very complex. I like that it uses fat quarters and with the size variety I can highlight the various fabrics.
My customers often order these quilts as graduation gifts for high school students using the fabric for their destination college. I use the college fabric as my color guide and head to my favorite fabric store in Purcellville, VA - Webfabrics. They have an amazing selection of fabric and tons of pre-cut fat quarters.
I pull between 16-30 fat quarters in complementary colors depending on the desired quilt size.
When assembling the quilt squares, I usually rotate the squares for more variety in the layout. Sometimes, like this VT quilt above, I include sashing. I add a final border with the highlighted school or team fabric to finish the top.
I’ve made a lot of quilts with this pattern and it never disappoints. I’ve had creative customers pick their own fabric and nervously looked at the assortment. In the end, this pattern doesn’t disappoint. I’m always impressed how the end product looks regardless of the variety of fabric.
